Frisco Moving to Region I - District 6
Frisco will find old and new rivals in the new 8-team district <back to top>
Frisco will be competing in both a new region and new district for the next two years. The University Interscholastic League (UIL) placed Frisco in Region I - District 6. Rivalries with Denton, Denton Ryan and Hebron will remain while new rivalries with Azle, Justin Northwest, Richland Hills Birdville and Richland Hills Richland will begin.
The change promises to bring new challenges and new travel routes. Frisco will not only be the furthest eastern school in the district, but in the region also. The district basically goes from Frisco/Hebron, west through Denton and onto north/northwest Fort Worth. See District 6 Information for information about and directions to the new schools.
Frisco Hoops to Include the Ladies during 2002-2003 <back to top>
It is great news to announce that Frisco Hoops will now also include the Frisco Girls Varsity, Junior Varsity and 9th Graders. Now Frisco basketball fanatics will only have to visit one site for the latest and greatest news for FHS boys and girls basketball at all levels.
In accordance with UIL rules, after school practices will begin Mon/Oct21. Mid-fall schedule can be a busy time for FHS athletes and FHS facilities with a number of sports begin to wide down and with winter sports begin to start up. Practice schedules are not yet determined or announced but flexibility and cooperation is appreciated.
In additions, scrimmages versus other schools are allowed Mon/Nov04 and games can start Mon/Nov11.
Frisco bids farewell to a pair of Seniors - John Hall and Jason Weir <back to top>
As the FHS class of 2002 moved onto their future, the boys basketball program said to good-bye to two great players and leaders. John Hall, 3 year varsity player and first team all district in 2001-2002, and Jason Weir, second team all district will be attending Oklahoma University in the fall. Many thanks to both players for contributions to the program. Best of Luck in Sooner country.
Experience was hard to come by during the 2001-2002 season. Last year it seemed like all roads lead away from Frisco. Several key players from the previous season had moved away from the Frisco ISD. The end result was only 2 of 12 players with varsity experience during the season. If lack of experience was a weakness last year, experience will be a strength on 2002-2003.
Many of the playing minutes during last season were given to underclassmen. Every one of those minutes last year should prove to an investment in the upcoming season. Not only will those minutes help but the time spent this summer in the practice gym, at basketball camps, at various tournaments and in the weight room.
The Fighting Raccoon Football demonstrated they are a team to be dealt ith in District 6-4A. A very strong and talented Denton Mustang team won the showdown between the two previously unbeaten 3-0 teams, 39-21 in Denton. Friscon started strong and finished strong, it was quarters 2 and 3 that hurt Frisco. North Richland is next in the Raccoons sites. It will be Frisco's homecoming (Sat/Oct05). GO BIG BLUE!
Being a sports parent/guardian is a huge responsibility. Sports may help to mold the child but a parent/guardian plays the role of the artist/sculpture. It can be a great experience or a nightmare for the child. A Sun/Sep15 Dallas Morning News article (select here to go to news story) highlighted the importance a parent/guardian plays in being a positive influence in the student/athlete's experience. Read the story. In addition, here are hints for parents.
PARENTS CODE OF ETHICS
I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every game, practice or other youth sports event.
I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of my personal desire to win.
I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.
I will require that my child's coach be trained in the responsibilities of being a youth sports coach and that the coach upholds the Coaches' Code of Ethics [which can be viewed at www.nays.org/coaches].
I will support coaches and officials working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
I will remember that the game is for youth - not adults.
I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child. I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.
I will help my child enjoy the youth sports experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectful fan, assisting with coaching or providing transportation.
I will read the National Standards For Youth Sports and do what I can to help all youth sports organizations implement and enforce them.
